Writing because we're writers

Well, hello there, audience. It is I, Yola. Today being Monday, the day of hangover recovery, booting strange men out of bed, and wondering where I've been the last three days. For instance, I don't remember buying that toaster at all. Must have been the guy I met at the Yukon. He said he could cook but I was hoping he didn't mean food. But well, food's good too.

I thought I would pose a question to all of you. How did you become writers?

For me, it was a plan for world domination. Being Yola means domination, of course. I realized at birth that my unique viewpoint was not shared by the rest of the world. I decided to be the first-person narrator of my own life. How has it worked out for me? Awesomely, thanks.

So, lets hear from you little people. And please kneel when you write.

  1. I started a diary way back at Davy Crockett Elementary and used to imagine it was the Voice Over to a movie of my life.

  2. Blah blah blah. Write all you want, but world domination is MY department.

  3. I'm sure you are a cute little thing, JessieLynn, I'll bet you have a cute little boyfriend. He'd never steal your credit card, buy a toaster, burn your bagel with said toaster, claim it was the Spanish language instructions that messed him up, abscond with your second best bra and leave no forwarding address, would he? Men are scum, young lady, put that in the voice over to your life. But keep writing! Have you thought about screenwriting?

  5. When I started writing there was little on television to distract me. I Love Lucy was diverting, of course, and I always found Milton Berle dreamy, but the rest was simply shades of gray.

  6. Ever since our Great Auntie Ann lost her head, lo, those many years ago, we Boleyns have wandered the earth as misfits and malcontents - in short, as artists. It is as if, as a family, we are striving through art to make ourselves whole again. In my case, this familial angst manifested itself in writing, and though I may never quite find perfection in words, I continue to try.

  7. A friend and I wanted to publish a comics fanzine. Since he could draw and I couldn't, I became a writer.
